Holiday DIY: Hand-Painted Gift Wrap

When it comes to gift giving, it’s always exciting to see the recipients face when they open their gift. As a gift giver, it’s also fun to make sure the gift feels extra special and magical when it’s wrapped with love. Today, we’re going to show you a ‘how to’ on hand-painted gift wrap and making your loved ones feel that extra magic this holiday season.

When we collaborated with Jess of Frapps & Frills to style three scenes for this post, I had a very specific vision for the gift wrap. I scoured the internet for the perfect paper to adorn the gifts with little luck. The wrapping paper needed to be soft and elegant, but still colorful…talk about a hard combination for pre-designed gift wrap! When I couldn’t find what I was looking for, I set out to make my own.

I ordered a roll of white paper from Amazon (be sure to get it in normal wrapping paper dimensions of at least 30″ wide) and used a bottle of blush acrylic paint I already had on hand plus a brush and a bowl. That’s it! It was a simple, yet impactful, design-it-yourself project that turned out so beautifully!

Make your own gift wrap:

  1. Gather your supplies. Again, I used a roll of white paper ordered from Amazon, blush acrylic paint, a brush and a bowl.
  2. Roll out your paper on a flat surface and decide on your design (I did gingham, thin stripes, and thick stripes).
  3. Water down your acrylic paint in the bowl. Play around with ratios until you find a combination that you love!
  4. Paint your design and let it dry.
  5. Wrap your gift!

I even think this would be a fun project to do with kids! You can roll out the paper and do as many different variations as you’d like, roll it back up and use it all year long!

No more boring gifts, okay?! This simple project will turn even the smallest gift into something thoughtful and original.
